Khruangbin is gearing up to release their new album A LA SALA in a few short weeks. They’ve already given us a listen with their singles “A Love International” and “May Ninth,” both of which assure us that they’ll be bringing all the vibes when the album arrives. The trio has one more track for us before the album’s arrival, however, as they recently released the project’s third single “Pon Pón.”

“Pon Pón” carries on the warm, summery sound that their previous releases provided. The song begins with the interplay of bass and rhythm guitar that rides over as steady rhythm of kick, snare and hi-hat that keeps things dancing.

The song is mostly wordless until it’s almost halfway done. That’s when its whispered refrain, “Toma uno / Toma dos / Toma todo / Pon pón,” is worked into the song’s fabric. The addition switches the energy up slightly as it begins to build and then smolder. Just before it meets the smoking point, though, they smooth things out with a similarly whispered countdown that mixes and matches different languages as they vibe out until the song’s end.

“Pon Pón” blends a hodgepodge of jazz, funk, soul and more than a few other influences into a deceptively simple and layered cut that’s bound to catch you in its haze. And once you listen, we’re sure you wouldn’t have it any other way. Give the song a spin when you press play and be sure to look for A LA SALA when it arrives on Friday, April 5th.
