If you say the word “Freaknik,” the ears of those of us of a certain generation will most definitely perk up. The annual event may have started in the early ’80s as a party thrown by college students, but it soon ballooned into a cultural phenomenon that took over the city of Atlanta throughout the 1990s. This month, Hulu will help revelers relive the freaky fun of their heyday with the new documentary Freaknik: The Wildest Story Never Told.

The documentary, which caused some controversy when it was announced due to some aunties and uncles fearing their youthful business would be on front street, will detail everything you want to know about the history of the festival. From its humble beginnings to its star-studded prime, the documentary intends to hit all facets of Freaknik’s impact — good, bad and ugly.

Helping to tell the story are a bevy of talking heads — including Jermaine Dupri, Uncle Luke, 21 Savage (the three of whom also serve as the doc’s executive producers), CeeLo Green, Lil Jon, Erick Sermon, Too $hort, Marc Lamont Hill, Rasheeda, Killer Mike and more. Given that lineup and the epic story of the festival, we’re sure this documentary will be a must-watch.
