We haven’t heard from our British homegirls FLO since last summer, when the “Fly Girl’ trio dropped their surprise EP 3 Of Us. We’ve been missing their sound and their efforts to single-handedly revive the pop/R&B girl group model that dominated the late ’90s/early 2000s era. They’ve been successful thus far, and it looks like that success will continue with the release of their newest single “Walk Like This.”
Don’t let the title of the track fool you. While “Walk Like This” might seem like an empowering anthem at first glance, you’ll learn the song is much cheekier after pressing play. The ladies, alongside frequent collaborator MNEK and his producer cohorts RELYT, Ashton Sellars, Kabba and Talay Riley, cook up a sassy and sexy cut to let us know they’ve found a man who can put it down.
The track begins with the sound of their heels clicking before letting loose with a looped sample paired with heavy-hitting drums and guitar. The music is soon joined by the ladies’ voices as they speak on the way this lucky fella works it and why you might see a little bit of extra sway and wobble in their gait.
“There’s a reason I walk like this (I walk) / My baby, he be lovin’ on this (Oh yeah) / When he do it, he be workin’ that s**t (Oh yeah) / And every night he got me wantin’ more of it,” they sing on the chorus. “There’s a reason I walk like this (I walk) / Side to side with a sway in my hip (Sway, sway) / When he do it, he be workin’ that s**t (Yeah) / And every night he got me wantin’ more of it.”
While we might be used to hearing the ladies of FLO deliver kiss-offs to no-good men, we are digging this sweeter, sexier side of them as well. And with word that a video for “Walk Like This” is coming soon, we might be in for a lot more FLO in the near future.
Prepare to once again fall under the trio’s sway when you listen to “Walk Like This” below.
