It’s been almost a year since our girl Chlöe released her debut solo set In Pieces. While the album cycle for that set has wound down, the singer-songwriter hasn’t slowed her roll one bit. She’s been featured on a few songs by her peers — most recently with BJ The Chicago Kid on his song “Honey” — and even did a tribute to Dionne Warwick at The Kennedy City Honors. She’s still got more in store on the solo tip, though, and she’s bringing it with her new single “FYS.”
“FYS” (which stands for “F**k Your Status”) finds Chlöe getting a bit vulnerable after repeated romantic encounters with a beau. But, as she sings over a slick, slow-grind-ready groove composed mainly of slowed and distorted vocals and slinky programmed drums, it’s not the clout, jewels, rocks or money that he’s flossing that’s got her open.
“F**k your status / F**k your, your status, it don’t matter / Money, cars and the diamonds / Don’t faze me, I been had it,” she sings on the chorus. “F**k your status / I just, just wanna love you, baby / What you wanna do? Ooh.”
While Chlöe has hinted that more new music — both solo and with her sister Halle — is on its way, she hasn’t confirmed if “FYS” is just a one-off track or the sign of more to come. Whatever it might be, we’re sure the song will make a good addition to any GTD playlist you might have.
