Terrace Martin and Alex Isley revisit their joint album I Left My Heart In Ladera with a new music video. The next song to get the visual treatment from the LP is the sweetly sexy track “2 Step In The Living Room.”
Director Calmatic takes us to “Somewhere in Ladera Heights” for the touching clip. We see a woman sitting alone in her living room with a stack of letters and old photographs surrounding her on the couch. The camera closes in on one of the photos, which shows a young man in prison blues on the yard with a few fellow prisoners. When there’s a knock at her door, she goes to answer it and finds a man dressed in blue on her doorstep.
Although subtle, it’s evident that he is the man from the photos who wrote her all those letters, now older and a returning citizen. They stare at each other before he enters the house, and they reconvene in the living room. He reaches out for her, they embrace and start slow dancing. They’re both a little hesitant at first, but they soon find a groove and get into it and each other.
As they literally two-step around the living room, the camera pans around the scene to an upright piano against the wall where Terrace is now seated while Alex stands. The audio changes from the recorded version of “2 Step In The Living Room” to the two artists performing it live. Alex steps out to the middle of the room to sing and sway to the music. As quickly as they appear, though, Terrace and Alex go poof, and the couple returns to the empty living room to reacquaint themselves and dance the night away.
Terrace Martin and Alex Isley’s I Left My Heart In Ladera has been in steady rotation since its release this past October, and it’s good to know that they’re still promoting it. The stellar project is their musical love letter to the Ladera Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, and this visual tells a beautiful hood love story.
