Living legend Jody Watley is no stranger to the drama life can bring, but she routinely rises above the fray, keeps it moving and stays true to herself and her passion. She builds on that sentiment on her latest single “Everlasting.”

Written and produced by Watley and Rodney Lee and with additional production and mixing by Italian DJ/remixer Alex Di Ciò, “Everlasting” is a blend of her trademark vocals over a groovy track highlighted by percussion and horns. More than simply an uplifting pep talk for life, it’s the beauty and grace of Queen Jody personified.

Throughout the song, Ms. Watley shares some hard-won wisdom about protecting your peace and staying strong in the face of life’s ups and downs. “When I was a girl I believed in fairy tales / And fantasies / As I got older I realized nothing / Is ever easy,” she muses on the song’s first verse.

Jody isn’t letting life’s challenges steal her positivity, drive and shine, and she advises us to do the same. “Heartbreak / You’ll have some setbacks too / But don’t let the worst of life / Get the best of you / Come on now,” she sings, inspiring us to hang in there.

Her empowering message is brought home in the song’s chorus. “Sometimes you win / Sometimes you lose / You gotta stay up / Just keep moving on,” she encourages listeners with some life lessons. “Stay everlasting / Gotta stay true to what you feel within / It’s all that matters in the end / Everlasting.”

Ms. Watley’s latest was fittingly released on Avitone Records, the boutique label she started in 1995 to keep “independently fueling quality music.” Well, by our estimation, the everlastingly talented songstress is doing just that with no signs of stopping.
