If there is one thing we can count on from MAJOR., it is an uplifting time in the Lord. Always true to his brand, the hope-dealing singer-songwriter comes through again on his single “Joy In The Battle” and in its newly released video for the song. Aptly named “The Hope Anthem,” it’s an audio-visual foot-stomping, hand-clapping good time that’s a nod to his Southern and church roots.
If life has been life-ing and you need a quick pick me up, MAJOR. has a balm for your soul with “Joy In The Battle” from his EP The Hope Of My Soul, which he released last June. Co-written and produced by Joaquin Bynum, the song is an upbeat reminder that when tough times seem like the only times you have, you can rewrite your story and claim the victory in every battle.
“Cause I’ve got joy in the battle / I’ve got joy in my victory / I keep my eyes to the heavens / So my joy never slips from me / I’ve got joy in the battle / Joy on this journey set for me / When they see me coming / They ’gon see I got this joy all over me,” he exclaims victoriously on the song’s chorus.
MAJOR. dropped “Joy In The Battle” as a single in December, and he’s back with a visual and it’s the feel-good experience we want all 2024. Directed by Marcus Pitt, the video features MAJOR.’s soulful soliloquy on the joy he has all over him. The clip opens with him sitting on a plush sofa with a pensive look on his face as he reflects on life. He’s surrounded by shades of gold, brown and green decor and a stained glass window and stylishly clad in a paisley button-down, yellow pants and a hat to top his look off.
Animated text of selected lyrics pops up on the screen, punctuating his movements and narrating the song in a flashing white font. When the Spirit hits him, MAJOR. jumps to his feet and starts to put on a show. He gets on the good foot, emotes into the camera and sings to the heavens.
When the video fades to black at its conclusion, there’s a quote from MAJOR. that appears on the screen. “JOY doesn’t need the permission of your storm or circumstance for you to choose it. Just choose it. Because when you do, reality has no other choice but to join in. Choose JOY,” he writes.
“This video represents an intersection of my southern roots. From message to sound,” MAJOR. said of the visual in a press release. Adding, that “2024 is the year of JOY!” Well, amen to that! With the weight of the world weighing us down, we appreciate MAJOR. lifting us up.
