Lucky Daye had our number when he released his latest soulful single “That’s You” back in October of last year. The cut, produced by D’Mile and Bruno Mars, provided us with our much-needed Lucky fix and even gave us a dark, creative visual to boot. The singer-songwriter has kept a surprisingly low profile since, though, despite the song registering more than six million spins on Spotify. He’s back on the scene now, however, and giving us a live performance of the track for Genius’ “Open Mic” series.
The ever-dapper Mr. Daye steps onto the set with swagger while sporting a denim-on-denim ’fit, dark shades and a shiny gold grill. He then launches into a live rendition of the song that matches, and at times exceeds, the energy of the studio version. Though it’s just him and the mic, he manages to shine brighter than the neon-decorated set. In fact, the performance is so electric that he gets a little lost in the moment and ad-libs beyond the song’s runtime.
When “That’s You” arrived, we wondered if it was a sign of an album to come. Lucky recently confirmed that he indeed has a project on the way with a post on Twitter last week. Now if we could just get a title and release date. As you get ready for the next era for Lucky Daye, watch him kill yet another performance when you press play.
