After releasing a steady stream of stellar singles from their forthcoming album Songs With Friends, Louis York ushers in 2024 with more new music. The uber-talented duo comprised of Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony enlists their friend Tamia to join them on “Three Little Words.”
There is no question that Louis York and Tamia have hit-making chemistry. Look no further than their GRAMMY-nominated 2012 collab “Beautiful Surprise” from Tamia’s album of the same name. Now, over a decade later, this trio reunites to make musical magic with “Three Little Words.” The song is a soulful ballad with a bit of country twang that touches on a familiar theme – the angst associated with moving from the friend zone to the love zone.
Claude begins the tender song with his musings. “We were dancing around the obvious / Pretending that we were oblivious / Oh, to the rising tide / And trying to keep our emotions in line / Spilling our secrets and drinking wine / Up all through the night / And into the morning light,” he croons on the first verse, admitting that he tried to ignore the signs that love was brewing.
Tamia responds on the second verse with similar reflections. “We had a spark, but it started slow / Hoping this thing that we had would grow into something more / We didn’t want to repeat the past / So we prayed that it wouldn’t last once it came through the door / But how are you ever sure,” she sweetly sings, caught between affection and apprehension.
Despite their best efforts to fight their feelings, they ultimately decide to stop fighting and start loving. “I know that we both want to run / But what if we give in to what we’re running from,” Claude and Tamia harmonize on the song’s heartfelt chorus. Once they choose to let love rule, the forbidden three little words flow from their lips on the bridge and for the remainder of the song.
Louis York released “Three Little Words” with a companion video directed by Karl Weidmann. The visual opens with Chuck Harmony in a short multicolor jacket at the Rhodes, bathed in soft light illuminating a purple background, as his fingers dance across the keys. The camera pans to Tamia climbing the stairs in a bejeweled blazer and denim mini-skirt showing off her killer legs.
In the next frame, Claude is seen in a technicolor overcoat singing next to the Rhodes as Chuck plays, before the scene switches back to the studio where Tamia joins the pair for the session. The video sequences go from the casually clad trio in the studio around the piano and Claude and Tamia in the sound booth, to the beautifully lit performance stage where everyone is dressed to impress, namely Tamia who eats and leaves no crumbs in a floor-length, aqua-blue gown with a sexy, thigh-high slit.
Louis York and Tamia’s “Three Little Words” is a small taste of heaven that has us saying three little words of our own: We want more! We’ve already run the duo’s singles “Heaven Bound” with Jessie J and “Alone A Lot” featuring Anthony Hamilton into the ground, and this new song is going to join them in heavy rotation. This track is also the first new, original music we’ve gotten from Tamia since 2018, which only adds to our excitement.

While we impatiently wait for news about that project, you can catch us outside at a Tamia concert starting in February. Her upcoming tour with Joe is quite the hot ticket this winter.
