2023 might be a thing of the past, but it brought us more than its fair share of amazing musical moments. Quite a few of those came from the incredible Janelle Monáe, who more than impressed with the short-yet-very-sweet project The Age Of Pleasure. The album is a non-stop celebration, so it was only right that the performer was one of the many stars to perform at this year's edition of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
Janelle had many songs on The Age Of Pleasure to choose from, but the singer chose well by giving the audience electric versions of “Haute” and “Champagne S**t.” First up was “Haute,” and Janelle served up sex appeal and fierceness with the performance while surrounded by dancers clad in candy-colored leotards. Though surprisingly mellow for a New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performance, the track had the crowd in Los Angeles raring to go.
After midnight, the singer led the crowd in a toast before popping off with “Champagne S**t.” This time around, things were much higher energy as Janelle performed a version of the track that was sanitized for network television. The censoring didn’t kill the vibe, though, as everyone got lost in the song’s celebratory arrangement.
Janelle wasn’t the only one to bring in 2024 on the program. LL Cool J, Megan Thee Stallion and South African "It" girl Tyla held things down in Times Square for the ball drop. Meanwhile, Ludacris, Doechii, Coco Jones, Nile Rodgers & Chic and Paul Russell (of “My Little Boo Thang” fame) rocked the West Coast alongside Janelle Monáe in LA as other artists held it down in other cities (including Cardi B in Miami).
While you start making those New Year resolutions become a reality, relive a little of that night when you watch Janelle Monáe put it down in the performances below.
