Jennifer Hudson pulls in legendary guests on the regular to The Jennifer Hudson Show, making it must-see TV. This week, however, she welcomed rapper, actor, author and activist Common to her daytime talk show, and his episode was a must-see for another reason.

It’s been an open secret for months that the notoriously private EGOT and the notorious playboy are dating. In recent weeks, they’ve gone public at various functions, such as their night out to catch Usher’s Las Vegas residency back in December. Photographs have since circulated of the pair seated courtside at a few NBA games, leading to more speculation that they’re an item. Well, they laid speculation to rest during his appearance and made their relationship television official.

JHud was in rare form from the beginning of the episode when she walked out to Common’s single “Universal Mind Control” and did a variation of The Robot. She then picked up a microphone and busted a rhyme to introduce him. Common waltzed out from backstage with a huge bouquet of flowers and an even bigger smile on his face when he saw his boo thang. He gave Jennifer props on her rap, and the compliments kept flowing like the seasoned emcee’s lyrics.

Common leaned in to talk to his lady about their Chicago roots before Jennifer asked him the loaded question if he was dating anybody. Com came clean and admitted that he is in fact “in a relationship with one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met in life.” Without naming Jennifer, he then went on to extol a few of his mystery lady’s virtues and attributes. When he landed on the fact that she’s an EGOT with a talk show, it was clear that he likely wasn't referring to Whoopi Goldberg.

He flipped the question back on Jennifer, and she coyly confirmed that she’s in a very happy relationship. Common subsequently called their relationship “a happy place,” which made JHud light up since she calls her show the Happy Place.

When an audience member shouted out “She’s the one!” Jennifer repeated it for emphasis, and Common responded, “Speak on it!” Well, excuse us! Jennifer Hudson and Common might just be the real deal and go the distance. They had such an easy rapport, cool conversation and smooth flirtation that was a joy to watch throughout his entire interview, which lasted through several commercial breaks.

Common wasn’t just on The Jennifer Hudson Show to announce that he and Ms. Hudson had a thing going on. He was also there to promote his brand-new book And Then We Rise: A Guide To Loving And Taking Care Of Self. Calling it “a love letter to my community,” he wrote the book to encourage people to focus on their mental and physical health.

And Then We Rise is Common’s third literary work following his 2011 debut One Day It’ll All Make Sense and his 2019 memoir Let Love Have The Last Word. The Emmy, GRAMMY and Oscar winner hopes that this release becomes his third New York Times bestseller. In addition to appearing on his boo’s program, he’s been making the media rounds this week while concurrently traveling around the country on his book tour. Fans in Washington, D.C. can see him on Saturday, January 27th at Sixth & I before he ventures on to Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles. Visit his ThinkCommon website for more information on his tour and to purchase tickets.
