T-Pain already pleasantly surprised us when he offered up his Auto-Tune-less album On Top Of The Covers in March of this year. The rapper/singer, who has proven his chops throughout the years, delivered on the short-yet-sweet set of songs. He also thrilled fans with a series of three intimate, sold-out performances around the time of the set’s release. It seemed that those who missed them simply missed out. However, T-Pain is in the giving spirit this holiday season, and he’s gifted music lovers everywhere with a surprise release of a live recording of those performances in a special called T-Pain: On Top Of The Covers (Live From The Sun Rose).

The live set, which took place at West Hollywood’s The Sun Rose, features T-Pain singing all of the covers from the project along with quite a few more unexpected offerings — including The Isley Brothers’ perennial “Shout,” Luther Vandross’ “Never Too Much,” “American Woman,” Montell Jordan’s 1995 cut “This Is How We Do It” and so many more.

We also get a dose of T-Pain’s absolutely hilarious personality and heartfelt take on his craft. He takes us from swinging jazz to soul to rock to hip-hop and back again before all is said and done, and it’s a joy to watch. What’s even better is that this performance seems to be the basis for an upcoming live album, On Top Of The Covers (Live From The Sun Rose), which is available for pre-order now.

It’s exciting to see T-Pain reclaim his artistry in such a dynamic and honest way while also acknowledging and celebrating his past efforts. You can watch the entirety of T-Pain: On Top Of The Covers (Live From The Sun Rose) when you press play below.
