While most of us have a “new year, new me” mindset for 2024, Sy Smith is beginning the new year with a new album. After announcing the project and sharing its title when she dropped the funky lead single “Slide” in October, she continues to tease Until We Meet Again by sharing the album’s official release date, production info and cover art.
We’ll get to meet Until We Meet Again on Friday, January 26th. The set, which is said to feature Sheila E. and Chris Botti, will be released on Phonte and Nicolay’s +FE Music label. This will be Sy’s first album on +FE Music, but she is no stranger to working with The Foreign Exchange or their imprint. Phonte also serves as the LP’s executive producer while Zo! and Tall Black Guy are the album’s producers. With this collection of creatives behind Until We Meet Again, Sy Smith already has a hit on paper.
In addition to sharing the album’s pertinent details, Sy unveiled Until We Meet Again’s gorgeous front cover art. Her name and album title are aligned to the top, while a photo of her dominates the lower half of the cover. Sy is reclined on a couch and exudes an air of “Yes, I know I’m fine, and so do you” confidence. Her curls are big and fluffy, her face is beat and her frilly frock is fitting as she throws a glance to the side. We don’t know what’s caught her attention, but she has all of ours.
Sy’s cover art brings Minnie Riperton to mind. It almost looks like a mashup of her Adventures In Paradise and Stay In Love covers with Smith’s stylish spin. We look forward to hearing if Sy was inspired by Minnie’s album covers and paying homage to her soulful foremother.
At this point, Sy Smith just needs to drop the album pre-order/pre-save link. We are so ready to listen to Until We Meet Again, and its January 26th release date cannot arrive soon enough. We’re gonna need this one on MP3, CD and vinyl, please and thank you.
