Pharrell Williams can do it all. Though his recent step into the role of Louis Vuitton’s new Men’s Creative Director left some wondering whether music might take a back seat, he frequently pops out to and reminds us that, not only can he do both, he will do them both well. His latest single “Airplane Tickets” premiered during the LV Pre-Fall Men’s show in Hong King where it seemingly echoed the collection’s theme of the “transcendent spirit of travel.”
The tropical-tinged track features rapper/singer Swae Lee and reggaeton artist Rauw Alejandro and tells the tale of a woman who’s made getting “flewed out” the standard. According to them, the ”only thing she cares about is whereabouts,” and the fellas are more than happy to oblige. Switching between Swae Lee’s signature style and Rauw Alejandro’s Spanish flow, the two join on the chorus and note, “She said it without sayin’ it / We link up, proper plannin’ / We take trips and she tellin’ / Feeling East Coast air.”
Just a week after the LV show, Pharrell transports fans who weren’t lucky enough to catch it live with a vibrant visual for the track. Directed by Maxime Quolin, the capture was also filmed in Hong Kong along the famed Avenue of Stars, the city streets, hotel rooms, nightclubs and cars. It all looks like a good time and, paired with the infectious groove, viewers will be ready to change the winter forecast and immediately catch a flight. True to form, Pharrell has done it again, and we can’t wait to hear what’s next from this multitalented musical mastermind.
Word on the street is that he’s linked up once again with Chad Hugo and Shay Haley and more music from their iconic trio N.E.R.D could be on the way. While we wait to see if that materializes, let Pharrell, Swae Lee and Rauw Alejandro take you on an audio trip when you listen to “Airline Tickets” and watch the visual below.
