Christmas isn’t the most wonderful time of the year for everyone – especially if you have a broken heart. Madison McFerrin keeps it real this holiday season on her latest single “Alone On Christmas.” She lets a lost love who she thought was The One know how she’s feeling about his absence from her life and lips this December.

Instead of decking halls with boughs of holly, Madison calls her ex to let him know that their break-up has got her in her feelings. “Hey, baby / I know it’s been a while but / It’s Christmas, and I been thinking ’bout you / Just wanna let you know that I miss you,” she speaks at the song’s onset, taking off her cool and putting it all on the line.

She continues singing from the heart on the chorus. “I don’t wanna be / I don’t wanna be alone on Christmas / Instead I’m sitting on my own / Hanging by the phone / Waiting for your call / No I don’t wanna be, why we gotta be alone on Christmas / The only thing that’s on my list is your kiss / Baby, come on home,” she implores her beloved.

Despite the subject matter, this isn’t a slow, sad, sappy song. It’s actually quite bright and upbeat as she dances away the blues to synths, drum machine, hand claps and the occasional holiday bells. According to Madison, she wants you to “pop dat a** for Santa.”

In an Instagram post, Mad explained what inspired the throwback dance track. One day she and her bandmates were discussing Mariah Carey and all the loot she shovels in each year with “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” Later that night, this song woke her up and demanded to be written and released so that the lonely had something to do at Christmas: DANCE! McFerrin may have a broken heart this holiday season, but she is hoping to turn that pain into her own million-dollar Christmas jam.

’Tis the season for rekindling romance like they do in Hallmark Christmas movies and spinning the block in a sleigh. Thank goodness Madison McFerrin’s “Alone On Christmas” gives us a better option for overcoming the holiday blues. Get ready to shake a tailfeather when you listen to this certified holiday groove below.
