Kelela really did her big one when she returned from her five-year hiatus with her acclaimed album Raven at the beginning of the year. The set brought the singer’s usual verve as she channeled the club culture of the ’90s and early 2000s into her own eclectic brew of genre and style. Now she’s getting ready to flip it all into a new groove with her upcoming remix project, RAVE:N, The Remixes, set to drop at the top of the year. She’s showcasing what she’s got in store with the set’s latest single “Closure (Flexulant x BAMBII Remix).”
The original version of “Closure” is a sexy, slinky number made for bedroom times. Producers Flexulant and BAMBII completely switch up that vibe, infusing it with icy synths and incessant, thumping percussion to turn it into a hypnotic, downtempo house stunner. We get verses from rappers Rahrah Gabor and brazy near the song’s end before we’re thrown another switch-up as the track gradually speeds up and then glitches into a dubstep-like finish. It’s a winner, for sure, and will definitely get some burn in DJ sets and on playlists.
Kelela isn’t just stopping with the audio, however. She also delivers a sexy visual for the track. In it, we get a peek at her in a small, confined space as she gives us a private show. She wears a cropped white tee and matching panties as she moves seductively while using every inch of the space. This being Kelela, she also offers a bit of weird to go along with sexy. This time it comes by way of pairing long, platinum-blonde tresses with contacts that black out her eyes. The look and stylized framing give things a futuristic sheen that pairs perfectly with the song.
