Ruben Studdard’s eighth album The Way I Remember It is out into the world, and, as always, his fans are enjoying his soulful brand of R&B. Prior to the project’s release, Ruben whet our appetites with a trio of singles – “The Way I Remember It,” “W.I.F.E.” and “Masterpiece” – and now he’s keeping us entertained with the first music video from the set for the latter.
Studdard is a crooning art curator in the “Masterpiece” clip. There’s a performance aspect to the visual that features him backed by a band and doing what he does best on the mic. Big Rube is suited up like he’s in Men In Black: The Musical, but he rocks a more business casual look in shades of brown in his other scenes. We see him in a makeshift art gallery guiding a couple around the pieces and photographs on display. He also sings in these scenes, too, with this song serving as the perfect soundtrack for a surprise moment between the man and woman before the video ends.
“Masterpiece” is one of the highlights of The Way I Remember It. In addition to the singles, other tracks of note are “Everybody’s Type,” “Eyes Closed” and “Picture Perfect.” One thing is for sure, Ruben sounds good throughout the album. The Velvet Teddy Bear hasn’t missed a beat in the 20 years since he got that nickname during his stint on season two of American Idol, which he went on to win.
Ruben Studdard is still winning. He’s currently on the Twenty Years, One Night Tour with his bestie and Idol runner-up Clay Aiken with dates scheduled through January 2024. Also in 2024, Ruben and his wife Kristin Moore-Studdard will welcome their second child together.
For more Ruben Studdard, look out for him to perform “Masterpiece” on the Tamron Hall Show on Friday, November 17th. Before he graces our TV screens again later this week, watch him in action in the song’s music video below. Keep scrolling to listen to The Way I Remember It in case you haven’t heard it yet.
