Brandy takes us on a soulful sleigh ride with her latest project, her first-ever holiday collection Christmas With Brandy. The album includes new original music from the acclaimed songstress as well as her interpretation of beloved Christmas standards and is a gift for R&B fans and Christmas music lovers alike.
It should come as no surprise that the standouts on the 11-track LP are the six original records from the R&B icon. She begins with “Feels Different” where she keeps it real about the loneliness the season brings. The song finds Brandy conflicted about being lovesick for a toxic love at Christmas. Loneliness is tempting her to spin the block, but she knows better and is doing better this year.
Instead of looking back, she’s looking ahead to being surrounded by love and loved ones on “Somebody’s Waiting.” Brandy also looks forward to celebrating her favorite season with everything she needs on tracks like “Christmas Gift,” her latest duet with her daughter Sy’Rai; the good-time groove “Shine Out Your Light” and the optimistic bop “Christmas Everyday,” which ends the set on a festive high note.
Brandy also lets us know she’s looking forward to some steamy quality time under the mistletoe with her beau on the surprisingly sexy ballad “Christmas Party For Two.” The lead single from the project is a preview of what happens when you start snuggling by a warm fire at night after too much Southern Comfort eggnog.
While Brandy’s new entries to the catalog of Christmas music are top-notch, we are also smitten with her spin on some of our favorite carols and classics. Listeners will be drawn to her rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Someday At Christmas” and want to pump up the volume on “Jingle Bells” and “Deck The Halls” when two-stepping around the Christmas tree.
Like the wishlist that she shares on “Santa Baby,” we’ve been asking Santa for a Brandy Christmas album for years. Our wish has finally been fulfilled with Christmas With Brandy, which is an R&B gift that will keep on giving.
If you want more Brandy like we always do, don’t miss her starring in the film Best. Christmas. Ever! coming to Netflix on Thursday, November 16th. You can also catch her performing during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thanksgiving Day in person in New York City or airing live on NBC and Peacock.- Advertisement -
