Keke Palmer continues to boss up in major ways. After being the talk of the town all summer long, the actress/singer continued to keep her name on our minds with her Big Boss Tour and her single “Assets” along with promises of a deluxe edition of her recent album Big Boss. Now Big Boss (Deluxe) is here and sporting new tracks from Miss Palmer, including her vulnerable single “Ungorgeous,” which gets quite the glamorous visual treatment.

“Ungorgeous” touches on how someone — be it a significant other, family member, friend or even yourself — can sometimes make you feel less than worthy. The piano-driven ballad mines those feelings of insecurity with an intense sincerity that Keke sells quite well.

She delivers even more in the song’s video. She plays a glamorous starlet (not a stretch by any means) who seems to have it all on the outside. Behind the scenes, however, she’s dealing with a storm of emotions. We see her in places she’s probably come to know like the stage and red carpet. However, when she sits in front of the mirror, the tears start to fall. She spends the majority of the video deep in those feelings until we realize that we’ve been inside her thoughts the whole time. The cameras start to flash again and the Hollywood smile comes back because the show must go on.

We have to applaud Keke Palmer for keeping it so real with her art. You can stream the entirety of Big Boss (Deluxe) — which includes “Assets” and “Ungorgeous” alongside other new tracks “Serious” and “Crazy Things” — right here. Then keep scrolling to see the starlet be both glamorous and unguarded in the visual for “Ungorgeous.”
