Weeks after the release of her sophomore album falling or flying, Jorja Smith drops another stirring single from the project. Following “Try Me,” “Little Things,” “GO GO GO” and the LP’s title track, Jorja’s fifth single and visual combo is for the track “Feelings.”
“Feelings” features British rapper and singer J Hus and tells the tale of lovers fighting a battle between their head and their hearts. Over the DAMEDAME*-produced track, they take turns detailing the circumstances of their complicated headspace. Their tones are wrought with emotional exhaustion as they sing, “I know you got your reasons, yeah, I know the meanin’ / I know you’re still healin’, baby, but you’re still appealin’ / Hope you don’t think I‘m reachin’, but I got feelings to the ceiling,” in unison on the chorus.
Director Femi Ladi chose a cinematic approach for the “Feelings” video, and the result is captivating, to say the least. Fans of the Netflix drama series Top Boy are treated to a cameo from actress Jasmine Jobson, as she and Jorja carry out the ultimate heist. Clearly inspired by the 1967 classic film Bonnie and Clyde, the ladies portray multiple characters, which adds to the overall intrigue of the 5-minute short film.
