There’s a certain comfort that comes with being in a loving relationship. Whether you’re finishing your partner’s sentences or they simply anticipate your needs, the security that comes with a solid connection is unmatched. However, having soul ties to another also means that your senses are aroused when something is amiss. GRAMMY-nominated singer and songwriter Gallant gets this feeling deep in his gut on his new single “311!” and lays it all out.

Gallant joins forces with Terrace Martin for the stirring, mid-tempo groove laced with Robert Glasper’s dazzling keys and Keyon Harrold’s impassioned trumpet. Gallant tries to make sense of his lover’s prolonged absence on “311!” and he’s feeling all kinds of ways.

“Three nights here by myself / Tryna reach her from the hotel / Said she’d be here by now / Maybe she’s lost or with someone else,” he sings on the first verse over his collaborators’ jazzy instrumental. “Somebody dial ‘311’ / Tell ’em check the phone towers / Last 48 hours feel like an eternity,” Gallant pleads, ready to send out a search party.

He shared some insight into “311!” on X/Twitter. “wrote this song about that panicked feeling that settles in when you consider — just for a moment — that maybe the wool has actually been pulled over your eyes this entire time, and that fluffy white cloud underneath you that you assumed was floating a few feet away from heaven was just a comfortable couch in purgatory,” he tweeted.

This latest offering marks Gallant’s first single in two years and the debut of Terrace Martin’s newest record label O’Connor, a joint venture with Lowly and Create Music Group. “311!” is said to be the lead single from a forthcoming collaborative album between Gallant and Martin entitled sneek. This collab follows Terrace’s recent announcement of his upcoming joint album I Left My Heart In Ladera with fellow Los Angeles native and songbird Alex Isley due in days on Friday, October 20th. While there’s no official word on when the full sneek project will drop, it’s clear that Martin has been hard at work with his tribe of talented comrades, and we’re all excited to reap the fruit of their creative labor.
