As he gears up for the release of his second EP this year, soulful UK singer Elmiene excites fans with another stirring single. This time he teams up with decorated producer, songwriter, singer and DJ Dahi for “Shame,” a groovy but heavy track about the difficulty of leaving a love that no longer serves either party.
Elmiene’s tone is riddled with both grief and guilt on “Shame.” He sounds weary when he croons, “Simply put, it's contagious / Our direction is aimless / Simply put, my faith is fadin’ / I’m tryna flip the pages / It’s frustrating, but it’s hard for me break.” About mid-way through, he shifts keys and shares the blame declaring, “Shame on us / Why we playin’ stupid games / We should know by now that its never gonna change.” Coupled with Dahi’s head nod-inducing production, the track is simply beautiful in its depiction of the ugly side of romantic relationships.
This latest offering from Elmiene follows the release of the title track for his forthcoming EP Marking My Time. Although “Shame” won’t be included on the EP, the project will feature previous singles “Mad At Fire” and “Mama” and serves as the follow-up to his El-Mean EP, which dropped back in March. Since then, the Def Jam signee has been on the come-up, steadily expanding his global fanbase.
Once videos of him covering neo-soul and R&B classics caught fire on the internet, those rooted in the fashion world were introduced to his single “Golden,” which provided the soundtrack for Virgil Abloh’s final Louis Vuitton show in Miami. As the saying goes, the rest is history, as this most recent single taps into the gamer audience as a feature on EA Sports’ FC 24 soundtrack.
