Dawn Richard is nothing if not innovative. The convention-defying artist has pushed the boundaries of music ever since she embarked on her solo career, often predicting the trends that artists jump on soon after. She’s continuing upon that path with the release of a new maxi-single, which she’s referring to as an “epoch,” called The Architect. The project houses three songs, including the dance floor-ready “Babe Ruth,” which is now her latest to get a dance-heavy music video.

“Babe Ruth” aims to show that Dawn is just as legendary as the baseball great from whom the song borrows its name. “I’m the greatest / I’m not braggin’, it’s facts / You n****s haters / They call me Elon / So give me space, b***h,” she spits over the song’s pulsing bass, pounding drums and glitchy electric sounds. It’s the kind of boast that one would think warrants a super-elaborate visual. Instead, Dawn gets back to basics for a dance-centric clip.

The video features only Dawn and one other dancer as they move like the rent is due, and they’ve got money to make. The choreography is tight and aggressive as the duo brings the noise and attitude to match the song’s energy and bravado. By the clip’s end, it’s easy to understand why Dawn is in a class all her own.

The Architect also features the new track “Your Love/Legends” and her previously released cut “Bubblegum.” And, like anything that Dawn Richard drops, it’s a must-listen. Stream her three-song epoch right here and then head below to see her knock it out of the park in the “Babe Ruth” visuals.
