Avery Wilson has big things poppin’ with his role as Scarecrow in the national tour of The Wiz and its upcoming Broadway revamp opening in Spring 2024. Though he might be currently easin’ on down the road, the singer hasn’t forgotten about his fans. That’s why he made time to drop off his latest single “Kiss The Sky,” much to their delight.
The song sees Avery teaming up with Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony — otherwise known as Louis York — to craft a sensual, mid-tempo cut that shows off the crooner’s skills. “Kiss The Sky” presents him in the mood for love and sending out a special invite to a private party in his bedroom. The song opens its doors with a warm groove consisting of synth chords, guitar and bongos that capture the romantic feel without having to take things into slow jam territory.
He’s also capturing some classic soul vibes with light and airy harmonies that sail across the song’s structure as he tempts us with promises of a good time. “Close your eyes you’re in for a big surprise / Tonight is just for us / Baby and you’re the only one / That’s been invited,” he sings on the chorus. “It’s a private party for us / I’m so excited / To give you the kind of love / That feels like paradise / Let me light you up / ’Til you kiss the sky.”
With The Wiz set to take up a considerable chunk of his time over the next few months, we’re assuming that “Kiss The Sky” might just be a standalone single.
