Tori Kelly’s EP tori has been a delightful addition to her catalog and our collections since its July release. We thought that her next drop would be a new album in the next year or so, but she surprises fans with the release of a deluxe edition of tori.
Outside of a new cover, tori (deluxe) features the original EP as-is with the addition of three tracks at the end. This trio of songs consists of the audio of her VEVO live performances that premiered in August. During her visit to the VEVO studios, Kelly performed the cuts “shelter,” “alive if i die” and “missin u (r&b edit).” Her live vocals were in tip-top form for all three songs, so their addition to the EP is a sweet treat. Considering that Tori has yet to record a live album, these tracks are the next best thing.
Speaking of Tori Kelly live, she’s currently in the midst of her Take Control Tour through the end of the month. Her adoring fanbase sold out the entire tour in minutes, so if you weren’t lucky enough to score tickets, better luck next time. Fingers are crossed that she adds more dates or announces a more expansive tour in the future.
The next best thing to seeing Tori in concert is watching her on video, and also newly released is a visual for the song “young gun” featuring her producer Jon Bellion. They co-star in the clip that begins with a scene of real-life Tori outside at a payphone making a call. The camera zooms in on the receiver in her hand, and we’re suddenly transported to where Tori and Jon are as if they exist inside the phone.
We see them on a soundstage singing and standing with their backs to each other in a pool of water against a golden backdrop. They move around the watery set and each other as the backdrop and lighting change. They never interact or touch one another with anything besides their yearning lyrics, signifying the chasm between the old flames. The song and their scene conclude, and we return to Tori at the payphone. It’s almost as if she was listening to them sing “young gun” as the hold music on the other end.
