Depending on who you ask, the concept of monogamy may be outdated and perhaps obsolete. While some stick to the more traditional route of marriage, kids and a dog, Gen Xers and millennials are seemingly trading in long-term attachments for entanglements. While we issue no judgment, we can all agree that clarity and communication are the keys to ensuring that expectations are met in any type of relationship. Singer-songwriter Shay Lia seeks this type of transparency on her latest single “ON THE LOW.”
Shay reteams with super-producer KAYTRANADA for the tenth time to express her frustrations with an inconsistent lover. Over his thumping, dance floor-ready production she sings, “You’re so in and out, happens all the time / Say you want me, but your actions don’t align / All the games you play, I dare you tell the truth / It don’t come out of you, it won’t come out of you.” She is over it by the time the chorus hits and loses her cool. “On the low, low, low, low, low / I’m tired of this s**t!” she explodes.
This latest bop marks the fourth and final release from Shay Lia’s forthcoming debut LP entitled FACETS. The track follows previous singles “SOLO,” “TAKUTA” and “UPSIDE DOWN” and continues to showcase her versatility as an artist.
Via press release, she says both the title and the content of the upcoming album depict the complexities that have shaped both her character and her creativity. Shay explains, “[the project] speaks to all the lives I’ve lived in different cities, countries, times and spaces. It’s impossible for me to sit comfortably in one specific genre because, while my vision is clear, my influences and experiences are layered. It’s an intentional demonstration of all sides of me, and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it, feel it and see parts of themselves in it.”
