Victims & Villains, the album that Musiq Soulchild and producer Hit-Boy surprised us with back in March, has been a gift in every sense of the word. The project is one of the top R&B drops of the year that has remained in heavy rotation. The quality of the material has ensured repeated plays but so has Musiq’s commitment to keeping it on our radar with a steady stream of visuals over the past few months. So far, he’s delivered videos for 9 of the album’s 10 tracks, with the newest being a visual for the song “your love is life.”
Soulchild has found his soulmate on “your love is life.” This new love has him feeling all the things – even butterflies. “Love in its own time, ain’t had butterflies in a while / Not until now,” he sings to open the track. He keeps pouring into his loved one throughout the song with lyrics like, “Your love is like a light, I’ll never wander” and “You make something deep within come alive.” Oh yes, Musiq is in love love.
Caleb Seales, Musiq’s go-to director for all of his Victims & Villains videos, is behind the camera, of course, and we get a similar concept to other visuals from the album. There are separate scenes of Soulchild singing and a man and woman doing couple things. This time around, the couple is a happy one, however. We see slices of their life together from exercising in a park to cooking a meal in the kitchen to dressing up and stepping out for a night on the town. In between, Musiq provides the soundtrack to their love affair on location from a spot with an Asian flair.
With this clip for “your love is life,” Musiq Soulchild only has one more song left on Victims & Villains to give a video treatment. It’s fitting that it will be for the last song on the collection, “we were just binging.” Musiq hasn’t indicated when he’ll premiere this grand finale, but we look forward to seeing how he completes this ambitious visual project. Until that time, watch him bring “your love is life” to life right here.
