Kevin Ross gives R&B lovers a new feel and another high on his EP Midnight Microdose, Vol. 2. After getting us hooked on Midnight Microdose, Vol. 1, the singer-songwriter explores more toxic topics on the second installment of his Midnight Microdose series and reveals more layers of his creativity.

“If I had to sum up Midnight Microdose, Vol. 2 in one word it would be, DRAMATIC,” Ross described the project in a press statement. He does spice things up with some edgier content than we’re used to hearing from him this go-round to show that even good guys can act bad.

The EP starts with the track “Ain’t Mine” detailing an entanglement that he’s in with somebody else’s girl. Kev’s reckless thrills continue on “Animalistic” where he expresses to a woman that he can’t stay faithful to her because of his nature.

Ross returns as the Midnight Microdose narrator to help listeners navigate their way around the project, and at the close of “Animalistic” he quips, “Hmm, toxic levels are higher than normal.” However, that soon changes with “New Lows,” which sounds like two different tracks and serves as a sonic segue between the chaos of the first two songs on the EP and the latter two.

After belonging to the streets, he crosses paths with the right one, which leads to a change of heart on “Found Me.” That sets up the final song, the single “Ready For It.” Kevin pursues the dreamgirl who got away while he was wilding out with special guest Eric Bellinger echoing his sentiments. Ross and Bellinger link up in the “Ready For It” video that has an unconventional storyline and an unexpected twist at the end before closing with the message “To Be Continued.”

Midnight Microdose is also to be continued. The Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 EPs will be included on the full LP, which will be released at a later date. If he follows the pattern of his previous Audacity series, the full album will contain all tracks from both EPs with additional songs to complete the collection. Kevin Ross hasn’t missed yet with the Midnight Microdose series, so we’re looking forward to how he ties it all together and what other layers he unveils.
