As she prepares for the release of the third and final installment of her FIELDNOTES EP series, Ego Ella May emerges with the first single from the project. On “Undone,” the singer-songwriter-musician encourages listeners to relinquish the need for control.

Co-produced alongside LVTHER, Ego’s tone is reflective over the laid-back track accented by dazzling strings courtesy of Isabella Baker. After revealing her own moments of uncertainty, the British-Nigerian beauty offers the following words of wisdom: “Seems the key is giving up / In the sense of losing control / Forget what you think that you know / Don’t believe your every thought / Be prepared to start questioning your own role.”

This latest offering is from her forthcoming EP FIELDNOTES III. Via press release, she shares that she drew inspiration for the track from a book entitled I May Be Wrong by Bjørn Natthiko Lindeblad. She outlines the author’s courageous transition from business executive to a Buddhist monk in the song’s lyrics and notes the lasting impact the story has had on her own life.

“When I read that book, it opened up so many possibilities and helped me remember that I can start again whenever I choose,” she shared. “This song marks a new beginning for me and simultaneously the closure of FIELDNOTES in a way as I wrap up this chapter, and I knew I wanted to lead with this one."

The “Undone” visualizer ties in Ego Ella May’s inspiration with a looped video of her reading I May Be Wrong. We view her lounging on the floor dressed in a suit and leisurely turning the pages of the hardcover book while the lyrics display on the screen. She makes us want to grab a book and read it with this song on repeat.

While we don’t yet have a release date for the full FIELDNOTES III EP, Ego Ella May shared on Instagram that she’s hopeful that the lead single gets her adoring fanbase “excited for what’s to come.”
