Last year, Diddy got on Beyoncé’s Internet and erroneously stated that R&B is dead much to the dismay of actual R&B artists and fans. Oddly enough, he brought back the tired trope as a way of promoting his return to the genre and positioning himself as its savior. Now he’s ready to back up all his big talk with the official announcement of his forthcoming R&B album entitled The Love Album: Off The Grid.
Diddy began his R&B comeback last summer with the single “Gotta Move On” featuring Bryson Tiller. However, neither that song nor his follow-up single “Sex In The Porsche” with PARTYNEXTDOOR will actually be included on The Love Album: Off The Grid. Although “Gotta Move On” was a jam, it will barely be missed on the 23-track collection that showcases a roster of guests that sounds like an awards show.
Brother Love’s contact list is deep, and he has enlisted superstars, new jacks and all levels of talented artists to help him bring his R&B visions to life. Babyface will co-star with John Legend on a track named after the dearly departed love of Diddy’s life Kim Porter. Fellow hitmaker The-Dream will join legendary musician Herb Albert on a song that will begin the collection. Elsewhere, K-Ci, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Ty Dolla $ign, Jeremih, Burna Boy and the self-proclaimed King of R&B Jacquees are on tap to contribute to this musical potluck.
Mary J. Blige leads the pack of women who will bring their feminine energy and killer vocals to the project. Joining her will be Jazmine Sullivan, Teyana Taylor, H.E.R., Kehlani, Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Nija and Diddy’s artist Jozzy. Dirty Money fans will be elated to know that there will be a mini-reunion of the group on this album with Dawn Richard and Kalenna joining Diddy and Busta Rhymes on a track.
It remains to be seen if this body of work will save R&B, but Diddy’s highly anticipated The Love Album: Off The Grid is scheduled for release on Friday, September 15th and can be pre-saved or pre-ordered now from your choice of digital music platforms.
