While everyone else is sorting through prospects to cuddle up with during the colder months, Alina Baraz is making music for those who opt to fly solo during the so-called cuffing season. Her latest single “Don’t Buy Me Roses” tells the tale of a relationship that has run its course, and she clearly prefers it that way.
Baraz turns to Loshendrix and lophiile’s production for “Don’t Buy Me Roses.” Over their smoldering track, she’s fed up and there’s absolutely nothing her ex-beau can do about it. Her tone is full of both emotion and exhaustion as she sings, “You try but it’s hopeless / Boy, you can’t fix what’s broken / So, don’t buy me roses.” Fellow singer-songwriter Col3trane lends both his pen and his vocals to the track, and the result is a painstakingly beautiful depiction of a woman who has reached her breaking point.
This latest offering follows Alina’s sexy summertime collaboration with Austin Millz on “Breathless” and her most recent single “Keep Me In Love,” released last month. All three songs showcase her signature sultry sound and her knack for tactfully tackling matters of the heart. Via press release, she promises the release of more of her solo work for the remainder of the year, and we love the sound of that.
