Hitmaking homies Louis York are tight with some talented folks. We’ll get to hear from a few when they drop their next album Songs With Friends in the coming months. They introduced the collection with the genre-bending single “Heaven Bound” featuring their girl Jessie J this past spring. The duo of Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony continue to run through their contact list and play with genre on their latest single “Alone A Lot” where they’re joined by their friend Anthony Hamilton.
Louis York and Hamilton go country soul with a little gospel on “Alone A Lot.” The blend of genres is perfect for Claude and Anthony’s voices on this song about loneliness, longing and, eventually, love.
Claude laments on the opening verse about his heart’s desires. “I’ve been traveling so long / I’m searching for a heart to call home / Sleeping in a bed that’s cold / Tired of eating all my dinners alone,” he sings. His pain gives way to joy by the chorus, however.
“You came around at a good time / When I was breaking down / I’ve been alone a lot lately / I’ve been alone a lot lately / Just when I thought I was sinking, you didn’t let me drown / I’ve been alone a lot lately / I’ve been alone a lot lately,” Claude wails, thankful to have found someone to turn his life around with their love.
The second verse belongs to Anthony, and he rolls in like a quiet storm. “Been a lot of folks that’s come and gone / Full of memories of who’ve done me wrong / Then you start to feel like you’re on your own,” he sings about the darkness before focusing on the light. “Until somebody finds you / Opens your eyes to a new road.”
AHam thunders on, passionately repeating the pre-chorus and chorus. Later in the song, Anthony and Claude are joined by a gospel choir for an all-out praise party for the person who saved them.
On “Alone A Lot,” Harmony, Kelly and Hamilton are a winning combination if there ever was one. If these fellas ever wanted to form a trio, we don’t think anyone would be mad. We’re gonna add that to our musical wish list in addition to getting Louis York’s Songs With Friends into our hands soon. While we wait, give “Alone A Lot” a spin or 10 below, add it to your playlists and collections from digital music platforms and be on the look out for the song's music video.
