Kevin Ross has been on his R&B grind this year. He’s already dropped the dope EP Midnight Microdose, Vol. 1 and collaborated with his contemporaries Kenyon Dixon on his “Slow Dancing (Remix)” and CAMP on his track “IDC.” Now Kevin is ready to serve his fans even more jams with the announcement of Midnight Microdose, Vol. 2, led by a brand-new collaboration with Eric Bellinger on the single “Ready For It.”
On “Ready For It,” both men are finally at a place in their love lives where they’re ready for the real thing. They spin the block on an old flame hoping that she comes around.
Kevin kicks things off urging her to kick her current man to the curb. “Don’t give it all to him, babe / Feelings involved, don’t wanna stall you, babe / But in my head I hope it fall through, yeah,” he admits.
He pours a little more sugar into his second verse. “Took me a while just to get it,” he begins his lyrical love letter about the realization that she was always the one. “All you did was make me better / Couldn’t get my s**t together / Watched it fall through / Till I lost you / Hope it ain’t too late to hear me now,” he sings to close the verse and hopefully start a new chapter.
Eric comes through on the bridge with even more realness. “Had to get it all out my system / Hope you understand my position / I was on bulls**t,” he sings, clearing himself and the air before sharing, “Girl, you make me better, had a dream you’re my Coretta.”
“I just wanted to make a bop that wasn’t completely toxic,” Kevin stated in a press release. “Men can still be clear in their intentions for love without it being perceived as soft or corny.” Amen and period!
