Jorja Smith will have a musical treat for us when she releases her upcoming album falling or flying this September. In anticipation, she’s been dropping singles left and right. We first got a taste of what she was cooking up with the defiant “Try Me.” She then followed that with the lovely, garage-influenced “Little Things.” Now the British singer is ready to rock out with her new single “GO GO GO.”
“GO GO GO” is yet another collaboration between Jorja and production duo DAMEDAME* that results in a new direction for the singer. The sound bed skews toward the punky side of things with raucous guitars and slapping drums with an extra dose of kick.
The pop-punk vibes work well with the song’s subject matter. Jorja finds herself ready to move on from a temporary tryst without much reason other than a feeling in her spirit that it’s time to go. “You like to feel a way about it all / I don’t feel like I care anymore,” she explains on the song’s opening verse. “You like to kiss and tell about it all / I don’t know you that well and I’m not tryna get to know you.”
Her point is further driven home in the song’s video. It opens on Jorja in bed with a recent conquest. She doesn’t stay there long, however, as she’s soon grabbing her phone and heading out the door to a waiting vehicle — though not before she takes a moment to viciously key his ride.
Daylight soon turns to nighttime, and the singer finds herself in a neon-lit club watching the partygoers get a little wild and crazy. She appears withdrawn, though, as if she’s grown weary of everything this world might have to offer. Will that despondent feeling leave her to repeat the cycle? Only she knows.
What we do know is that falling or flying will be an eclectic affair when it arrives on September 29th. Listen to Jorja Smith rock out when you stream the single right here and then watch her in action in the song’s video below.
