Coco O. has low-key been giving us mature-minded bops all year long. She started her current streak with the release of “Many Ways” back in April. She then followed that up with the very real “Someone Younger” in June. Now the Danish singer-songwriter is back with her third single of the year “Low Key Let Go.”
The song, which she co-wrote with Johannes Wamberg and features production by frequent collaborator August Rosenbaum and Marcus Gordon, finds Coco facing a lover who refuses to accept her love. Despite that reluctance, she’s willing to give her all if they’d only let her. With strummed guitar and knocking drums guiding her, she lets him know what she’s willing to do for him.
“Gonna give you sunshine sometimes / Gonna give you flowers if you want / Gonna give you piece of advice / Baby, the happiness you want is right in front of your eyes,” she sings in the track’s opening lyrics. However, her melancholy man can’t seem to get past himself and his despair to “focus on the good and let the other s**t go.” It’s enough to discourage her from even trying anymore, with her remarking that she’d be better off leaving him alone.
We all know that’s easier said than done, however, and Coco O. continues the song trying to get past her lover’s defense. “But when it’s so / So bad / When it’s so, so bad / I’ll give you all my sunshine,” she sings in harmony as the song comes to a close. “When it’s all so sad / When it’s all so said, I’ll give you all my lovin’.” She sings of a situation that will seem all too real to anyone who’s endured a similar experience, giving voice to the love and frustration that go hand-in-hand when these moments arise.
If we didn’t know any better, we’d say that Coco O. might have a concept album on her hands. That, however, remains to be seen and heard. She does have yet another song we’ll be adding to our playlists, though. Listen to “Low Key Let Go” when you press play.
