Ciara has been quite prolific as of late, dropping a bevy of singles in past year — including recent jams “Better Thangs” and “Da Girls.” We’ve been bopping to each subsequent release, but it seems that the performer had an endgame after all as she’s announced her upcoming EP CiCi. Heralding the set’s impending release is yet another new single, the Chris Brown-featuring “How We Roll.”
The two longtime friends connect on the midtempo cut that’s quite romantic in nature. It finds Ciara singing about an undeniable feeling of love and attraction she shares with her lover. Those sentiments are underscored by the mellow groove with a little bit of bump that lays the song’s musical foundation.
However, where CiCi’s verse implies the idea of sex (“You look at me like that again, we make another kid / You my heart, I’m your rib”), Breezy’s verse gets straight to the point. “It’s been a minute / Since I been in it / Swimmin’ in it,” he sings on his verse with a freaky smile behind the lyrics. With all the hot and heavy talk, the chorus is surprisingly simple, with the two simply singing, “That’s just how we roll (You know what it is, what it is) / How we roll (You know what it is, what it is).”
Things get a bit more high-octane (quite literally) in the song’s video. The two stars stage two separate parties on eighteen-wheelers as they see who can throw the best function. Of course, the competition doesn’t last long, with the two coming together for an epic dance break like only two performers of their caliber can bring.
Ciara isn’t only bringing new music into the world. She also announced recently that she’s expecting her fourth child with husband Russell Wilson with a post on her socials that utilized a “How We Roll” lyric to make things official.
