Though the summertime is typically dubbed as the season to turn up, Toronto’s own PARTYNEXTDOOR isn’t quite in the mood. While everyone else is out here “actin’ bad,” on his latest single “R e s e n t m e n t,” he seems to be reeling from residual relationship drama.

Over the somber, self-produced track, he calls his lover out on her shady tendencies and notes his budding animosity. His tone is weary as he sings, “I won’t keep standin’ for it / What be goin’ through your mind? / Stayin’ out past five / And you know you gon’ get checked for it.” He punctuates every other line of the latter half of the song by speaking three words, “Lack of respect,” further driving home the root of his relationship’s problems.

“R e s e n t m e n t” marks PARTYNEXTDOOR’s second single of the year following “Her Old Friends.” Both tracks set the stage for the release of the fourth installment of his PARTYNEXTDOOR series, which is rumored to drop sometime this summer. The project will be PND’s first album since 2020’s PARTYMOBILE and is already shaping up to give his loyal fanbase exactly what they’ve been craving from the elusive OVO artist.

Reflect on your own dealings with a shady lady or gent when you listen to PARTYNEXTDOOR’s “R e s e n t m e n t” and view its artsy visualizer below. While there’s no official release date, pre-save his forthcoming project now and keep an ear out for more of the PARTYNEXTDOOR 4 album rollout.
