Musiq Soulchild continues his streak of Victims & Villains visuals with his newest for “is it love, is it lies.” This video is hot on the trail of the clip for “imreallytrynaf*ckwichu,” where he reintroduced us to his hip-hop side with The Husel. In “is it love, is it lies,” Musiq reintroduces us to the couple who we first met in “imreallytrynaf*ckwichu,” but the honeymoon is unfortunately over.
The lovebirds who previously couldn’t keep their hands off of each other can’t even be in the same room together now. We catch them at home and see their divide as she grabs her ringlight from the living room and dismisses him when he tries to talk to her. She has more important things to do like entertaining her followers on social media with numerous outfit, makeup and hair changes. While she’s busy being an influencer, her boyfriend eats lunch by himself and his frustration with their situation is visible.
He eventually goes to check on her and interrupts her livestream, which leads to an argument. She decides to stream their fight to her followers, and things only escalate from there. In the midst of all this relationship drama, Soulchild makes a guest appearance. We spot him outside posted up against a brick wall and later delivering his spoken word verse seated on the trunk of a convertible.
For “is it love, is it lies,” Musiq Soulchild teams up with his go-to director Caleb Seales, who’s been holding it down with all the visuals for Victims & Villains. Be on the lookout for more from the pair with videos from the remaining three album tracks – “white rice déjà vu,” “your love is life” and “we were just binging” – surely on the way. While we wait for Soulchild and Seales’ coming attractions, watch “is it love, is it lies” below.
