We’ve gotten a lot of Mack Keane in the past year thanks to his frequent collaborator ESTA. on singles like “Super” and their EP Intersections, which features their track “O.M.L.” Mack is a talented singer-songwriter is his own right, however, and he’s making us take notice with the release of his new track “Chances.”
The song finds Mack delving deep into a sound that picks up on ’70s soul alongside producer Aabo. With guitar, bass and congas leading the way, the singer-songwriter takes a moment to explain himself and pour out his soul after being boosted by a little liquid courage. He lets us know how a recent heartbreak has affected him while also flipping the script with a subtle plea that’s hard to deny.
“I was f**ked up by somebody / Who didn’t mean anything to me,” he sings on the chorus. “Now that we both drunk at this party / If you feelin’ insecure / You could rest assure, take a chance on me.”
Though he’s not making any promises anywhere in the song, the emotion that he draws out with his vocal lets us know that his intentions are at least pure. And let’s be real, his charm and the honesty with which he delivers his lyrics are enough to make anyone consider taking him up on his offer (hell, many of us have probably done worse).
