Eric Roberson gave us a musical gift last year when he release his album Lessons. But if there’s one thing we know about Erro, it’s that he’s never done imparting his wisdom via song. The singer brings us just that on “Things Meant For Me,” his first solo single of 2023.

“Things Meant For Me” finds Eric taking a lo-fi, acoustic sound that almost sounds like a soulful version of a Beach Boys song. However, the song is all Erro when you get down to it. He sings of his career path while dedicating the song to “anybody who’s struggling to find their way.” To that effect, he blesses us with a lesson that he’s learned along the way.

He details his songwriting process and how he sometimes didn’t know what the songs he’d written really meant. However, once he realized that the purpose and meaning was there all along, he had an epiphany.

“I had to learn / It was there all the time / I had to learn / Just to keep an open mind / I had to learn / We’re all in God’s design,” he sings on the chorus. “Learn how to listen to find things meant for me.”

The song and its lesson seem deceptively simple, but we all know how difficult it is to get out of your own way. Thankfully, Erro also offers an easygoing grace in the song’s structure and his delivery that lets us know that it’s OK if we haven’t made it to where he is yet because we’ll eventually get there.

Eric Roberson is a songwriter’s songwriter and “Things Meant For Me” is yet another beautiful gift from his pen. Take a listen with an open mind when you press play below.
