Six-piece party band The Free Label has come a long way since their days of rocking house parties and after-hours dive bars. After taking their lively, ’80s- & ’90s-inspired sound worldwide, the Toronto-bred collective is set to illuminate the masses with their new single “Shine.” The fun-loving sextet team up with SoulBounce fave Braxton Cook to smooth things out a bit and serve upscale kickback vibes.

Drawing inspiration from the Earth, Wind & Fire classic “Shining Star,” the band notes their intention to “reinforce the message of self-assurance and celebrating your own brilliance,” as lead vocalist Josh Daniel sings,  “You know you shine, you are a superstar / Champagne flowin’, yeah it’s golden like I know you are.”

“Shine” marks The Free Label’s first single of the year, and sets the stage for their forthcoming debut album, which is set to drop in 2024. Much more than a summertime anthem, via Instagram they share that the tune “represents a new level of creative and artistic expression‎” and note their collaboration with Braxton Cook as a “level of musical communion” they dreamed of.

While the influences of disco, funk and R&B are evident in their body of work, touring, working with and being embraced by talented artists from all over the world continues to inspire the band. They explain, “That feeling of being part of the global music family – with musicians and live music lovers alike – is what keeps us going on stage night after night.”
