The epitome of the term, Q celebrated his 90th birthday back in March, and he was showered with love from around the globe for his contributions to music and the world. The lovefest continues this summer with the announcement of Quincy Jones’ 90th-Birthday Tribute: A Musical Celebration At Hollywood Bowl.
Quincy will get more well-deserved flowers this July during a pair of tribute concerts at the famed venue in the heart of Los Angeles. The musical celebrations will occur on Friday, July 28th and Saturday, July 29th with an all-star lineup as diverse as this maestro’s productions.
Scheduled to perform songs from his acclaimed catalog are numerous artists who’ve worked with and/or been championed by Jones. George Benson, Patti Austin, Jennifer Hudson, Siedah Garrett and Sheléa all highlight the bill along with John Mayer, Angélique Kidjo and Ibrahim Maalouf. Providing the musical soundscape for these artists will be the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra led by conductor Jules Buckley.
This is just the first wave of performers, with more to be announced in the coming weeks. All artists will perform on both nights during what is guaranteed to be a historic set of concerts fit for an icon.
“It’s an honor to be able to celebrate my 90th year on this planet with all-a-y’awl at the Hollywood Bowl, with some of my most treasured friends, musicians and songs,” the spritely nonagenarian said in a press release. “Thank-Q for keeping the music playing with and for me, and I can’t wait to see you all there!”
