In this digital age, there are all sorts of distractions competing for our attention. For his latest single “My Phone Can Die,” podcaster-turnt-producer Rory choses quality time over screen time.
He teams up with DMV-bred songbird Ari Lennox and Inglewood singer/songwriter/producer James Fauntleroy to declare their desire to shut out the world and focus on their lover. Over the smooth and seductive groove, the intention to remain present is clear as they sing, “My phone can die / I don't need nothing but you and I.”
The accompanying visualizer directed by Hritwik Chhabra illustrates the chokehold our phones have us all in. 3D artist Samuel Andrade takes viewers from the assembly line to the crowds of folks lined up to purchase the latest and greatest device. It all seems harmless until we note the zombie-like state we often fall victim to while completely engrossed in our phones. Though the track itself serves much sexier vibes than the borderline horror showcased in the visual, it serves as a note of caution to put the phones down and focus on what really matters in the world around us.
