Maeta is preparing to have perhaps her hottest summer ever. The vocalist steamed up our speakers when she dropped her single “S(EX)” way back in February and then fogged up our screens with its video in March. Now she’s back with an even more vulnerable take on love and relationships with her latest single, “Through The Night.”
“Through The Night” finds Maeta linking with the Free Nationals as she crafts a tale of love and longing between two people. With songwriting help from Lucky Daye and production from DJ Camper and a few others, the singer crafts a tune that touches on the uncertainty that comes with trying to make the move to go further.
The Free Nationals provide a groove that sensually simmers, with a bass guitar lead-in that lasts for the song’s first 90 seconds as Maeta’s voice sets the premise. The rest of the instruments eventually join in, fleshing the track into a sumptuous ballad replete with stunning backgrounds.
“You know that love don’t come easy / How do I know you’ll never leave me? / Can you go for miles? / Feeling some things I ain’t felt in a while,” she sings before launching into the chorus. “I think you should try / Try to blow my mind / Think you should try / To drive me through the night.”
Co-written by Lucky Daye, “Through The Night” is perhaps one of the best songs we’ve gotten from Maeta yet. There’s yet more to come as well, as she announced on Instagram that her new project, When I Hear Your Name, is on its way and even revealed a release date as well as a few of the high-profile features.
“I am so incredibly proud of this project, it is my best work yet,” she wrote. “And I got to work with some amazing people. We got a lil SZA, James Fauntleroy, Ty- let me shut up lol. JUNE 9th!!!!”
We can’t wait to hear what Maeta’s got in store. But first, settle into “Through The Night” when you stream the single right here. Then stick around to watch a thrilling live studio rendition.
