After making its grand debut last year, Juneteenth: A Global Celebration For Freedom is returning this June. There will be a new crop of artists and a new location for 2023, but the event’s mission to commemorate the national holiday and showcase and celebrate Black culture and music from across the Diaspora remains the same. Live Nation Urban will once again produce this year’s event in conjunction with Jesse Collins Entertainment, and it is set to take place on Monday, June 19th at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CNN and OWN.
The first wave of artists has been announced, and the talent lineup is quite diverse. Thus far, there’s R&B/soul singer Miguel, Afrobeats artist Davido, gospel music superstar Kirk Franklin, rapper Coi Leray and ’90s R&B groups Jodeci and SWV who’ll give fans a preview of what they can expect later this summer on their Summer Block Party Tour.
After doing such a stellar job in 2022, Adam Blackstone and Questlove have been invited back to serve as the musical directors for this auspicious occasion. More performing artists and guests will be announced in the coming weeks, but we’re already making Juneteenth plans and including this event in the mix off the strength of last year’s star-studded, uplifting show.
Set a reminder to watch the live broadcast on CNN or OWN on Monday, June 19th starting at 8 p.m. ET. Even better than watching it on television, though, is being there in person. Tickets to attend Juneteenth: A Global Celebration For Freedom live and direct at Greek Theatre are on sale now and may be purchased at the venue’s box office or online from Ticketmaster.
