“Watching the conversation that weekend surrounding Russell and Ciara, it fit,” Anthony exclusively shared with us about the track. “I wrote this about them years ahead of this situation and even used Afrobeat way ahead of its current popularity. I’m a prophet,” the “4evermore” singer-songwriter said, only half-joking.
Produced by Eddie Stokes, “Russell Wilson” rides an Afrobeat wave with an original groove crafted to make your body move. The breezy sound bed is the perfect foundation for Anthony David’s raspy swagger and confident lyrics. He takes on the role of a man secure with his beautiful lady and all the attention she gets when they step out together.
“You can look at her (Watch) / No, I’m not bothered (Nah),” he sings on the first verse about his woman who makes the men all pause before making a few things clear. “You can admire, but you better not touch her / You can just watch her, mmm, worship her / The bottle you bought her, we gon drink it together,” he croons, with a knowing head nod, wink and smile, the epitome of unbothered.
