We’re still expecting to get the album Electric Dusk from singer-songwriter Leon Thomas this summer, though he has yet to offer a firm release date. He has no problem offering up singles from the set, though. We’ve had quite a few over the months, including the recent ballad “Breaking Point.” Now he’s back with another listen on “Crash & Burn.”
“Crash & Burn” finds Leon licking his wounds after constantly facing the slings and arrows on love’s battlefield. A looped piano and sped-up vocal sample serve as the main musical backdrop for the crooner to spill out his feelings. And spill them he does. His lament spans many situations and even moves into some dark territory.
“I might get high off the 405 / Crash and burn just to feel somethin’,” he sings on the pre-chorus. “If I could die just to feel alive / To live in the sky, I can’t feel nothin’.”
Despite his ideations, the song still manages to hold some semblance of hope. That may be thanks to the gospel harmonies of the sped-up sample, which gives the song a comforting vibe despite the lyrics speaking of constant heartache.
Leon Thomas is stacking up quite the thoughtful collection of songs. Now all we need is a release date for Electric Dusk, and we’ll be happy campers. Check out “Crash & Burn” when you press play below.
