Jidenna is just under two weeks out from the May 5th release of his upcoming album ME YOU & GOD, and he’s been giving us multiple chances to hear what the project has to offer. We’re all for it, as it seems that the one-time classic man is bringing all the vibes this go ’round. He’s giving us yet another listen to the project with the release of his newest single “FRONT END” and just announced that he’ll be taking his show on the road this summer on The Silk Road Tour.
“FRONT END” is a breezy, vibey little number that uses a thick, sticky bass line as its foundation and builds from there with airy synth, programmed drums and other elements. It gives Jidenna and his featured guests Roman GianArthur, Sensei Bruno and band Gardens & Villa the opportunity to wax poetic about a pretty young thing. The fellas want to know what’s up from jump as they pursue her affections.
While Jidenna and Roman trade freaky tales, it’s actually Sensei Bruno who provides the sentiment tying things together on the chorus, singing, “I can’t put myself out there for nothing / Show me signs, show me something / I wanna know on the front end.”
We have a feeling that “FRONT END” will most definitely be on the setlist when Jidenna kicks off The Silk Road Tour in Seattle on July 14th. The 25-date jaunt will take him across North America with dates in nearly every major city — including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Toronto — before it wraps up on August 20th at Minneapolis’ famed First Avenue. The ticket presale for the tour is underway now, with tickets going on sale to the general public on Friday, April 28th. You can head to Jidenna’s website for more information.
Before you do that, though, check out both the stream and a jam session video for “FRONT END” right here and then head below for a full list of dates and venues for The Silk Road Tour.
