Music lovers in the DMV looking for something to get into and be outside this Juneteenth weekend need look no further than Baltimore’s AFRAM 2023. The City of Baltimore is inviting folks to celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday, June 17th and Sunday, June 18th at the 46th Annual AFRAM Festival, annually one of the largest African-American heritage, culture and arts festivals on the East Coast. One of the biggest draws of AFRAM – aside from the fact that the event is free – is always the roster of musical talent booked to perform, and this year’s lineup is heavy on the Black excellence.
Attendees on Saturday can look forward to performances by SoulBounce faves Zo! & Tall Black Guy with Debórah Bond, R&B singers Ambré and Eric Bellinger, DJing diva Spinderella and headliner Ty Dolla $ign. Sunday's performers include gospel artist Tim Bowman Jr. and Faith City Music, indie soul king Eric Roberson, R&B songstress Tamar Braxton and world-famous DJ Kid Capri with the festival culminating in a headlining performance by legends The Isley Brothers.
In addition to this impressive slate of national entertainers, there is an opportunity for local talent to perform on the AFRAM Community Stage. Interested Baltimore and DMV-based up-and-coming artists are invited to shoot their shot and submit an application, which can be found on the AFRAM website.
“AFRAM is extremely important for the City of Baltimore as it is one of our most time-honored traditions. This festival provides a unique opportunity for Baltimoreans and visitors to celebrate African-American heritage and culture in our city,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott said in a press release. “I look forward to AFRAM’s amazing lineup, which I’m confident people of all ages will enjoy.”
Scheduled from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on both days, Baltimore’s historic Druid Hill Park will be the site of AFRAM 2023. Come for the music and stay for cultural activations, a small business and artisan marketplace, local food vendors and family-friendly fun. As always, the event is free, open to the public and, weather permitting, an overall lovely day outside.
