The Capital Jazz Fest is back to kick off Black Music Month with a bang in the DMV. Scheduled for Friday, June 2nd through Sunday, June 4th at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, the premiere music festival is on track to return to its pre-pandemic glory. This year will commemorate the 30th Annual Capital Jazz Fest, and the star-studded lineup of artists reflects the noteworthy occasion.

The 30th-anniversary festivities begin with the Friday Night Soul Show hosted by SiriusXM radio host Cayman Kelly. This may be a jazz festival, but soul and R&B will take center stage with performances by Fantasia and Joe on the Pavilion Stage. After they wow the crowd and end their show, the night doesn’t have to end there.

Anyone who still wants to hang and hear more good music is invited to attend the Late-Night Soul event at Live! Casino & Hotel in nearby Hanover, Maryland. That show will be hosted by SoulBounce and CJF fave Eric Roberson and feature more live R&B courtesy of singers Kevin Ross, Teedra Moses and Raquel Rodriguez.

Day two and the first full day of the festival will showcase a parade of jazz, R&B and soul artists divided between two stages. On the main Pavilion Stage hosted by Marcellus “The Bassman” Shepard attendees can look forward to seeing George Benson, Robert Glasper, Moonchild, Corinne Bailey Rae, Kandace Springs, Jamison Ross and Johnny Britt.

Meanwhile, over on the Symphony Woods Stage where Cayman Kelly will serve as host, festivalgoers will be treated to some good singing from Ne-Yo, Stokley, Kenny Lattimore, Conya Doss, Daley and Lyfe Jennings throughout the day. If you’re still able to hang after a full day at the festival, the official after party will be held at Live! Casino & Hotel with Secret Society and a special guest DJ.

Day three and the final day of this year’s CJF will be just as spectacular. The Pavilion Stage will host Incognito, Dianne Reeves, Jonathan Butler, Mike Phillips, Matthew Whitaker, Lindsey Webster, Chelsey Green and the “Can You Feel It” Michael Jackson tribute.

Not to be outdone, over on the Symphony Woods Stage, the lineup is pretty exciting. The Capital Jazz Fest will welcome The Isley Brothers, Peabo Bryson, Loose Ends featuring Jane Eugene, PJ Morton, Marsha Ambrosius and Donell Jones.

The 30th Annual Capital Jazz Fest is clearly looking to celebrate this milestone anniversary in a major way with such a massive roster of talent scheduled to appear. If you’ve attended CJF before, then you already know that everyone will be bringing their A+ game and their microphones will be turned on. If you’ve never attended a Capital Jazz Fest before, there’s no better time than now.
